Anchor Home uses a comprehensive process to not only treat but prevent mold from coming back. This process is used in every project we undertake, whether mold is present or not.

How Anchor Home Ensures a Safe Working Environment
During the demolition and construction process of your project, we will be making use of two technologies in order to ensure a clean work environment, regardless of the presence of mold. The first of these two is a HEPA air filtration system which can eliminate up to 90% of airborne microorganisms, as well as 99% of surface microorganisms, including black mold, staph, and MRSA. In addition to this filter system, we also use a mold encapsulation spray & coating which is designed to kill, seal, and prevent mold on porous surfaces like wood and drywall. These products, often used in attics or crawlspaces, create a protective, antimicrobial barrier to prevent re-growth. Our use of these technologies ensures you will have a healthy home for years to come after your project.
The process: What happens when we find mold?
Assessment and Inspection
The mold remediation process starts by identifying the root cause of the source of moisture causing the mold (e.g., a plumbing leak, window leak, poor ventilation, roof damage, etc.). Once the root cause is identified, we can then assess the extent of the damage caused by the mold to determine the necessary cleanup required.
Containment and Isolation
Since mold is airborne and easily spreadable, we will seal off the contaminated space where mold was found to prevent the spores from spreading to unaffected areas of your property. This typically involves closing doors and sealing off vents and doorways using heavy-duty plastic sheeting and tape. We will also be wearing PPE gear during this process.
Air Filtration and Ventilation
Air scrubbers will be used once the area is sealed off; this will remove the airborne particles of mold. These air scrubbers usually have HEPA filters, which are designed to grab even the smallest spores, which will also prevent the mold from spreading through your HVAC system. An exhaust fan and dehumidifiers are also used, which will bring in clean outside air and lower the moisture in the air; mold cannot survive without moisture.
Contaminated Materials Removal
Once the mold has been successfully filtered out of the air, the mold physically present on materials (walls, appliances, etc.) will be killed using a biocide, which will also help prevent it from coming back (biocide is stronger than household cleaners and will completely kill and remove the mold, instead of just removing what's on the surface). Any materials completely destroyed by mold or water damage will also be removed. This may include porous materials such as drywall or carpeting.
Cleaning and Disinfection
Once the mold has been killed and any damaged materials have been removed, it's time to deep clean and disinfect the remaining area. Repairable materials and personal items (furniture, curtains, etc.) will be deep cleaned, disinfected, and deodorized. This cleaning includes everything touched by mold, including furniture, floors, walls, and anything else present in the area. The extent of the mold will determine the cleaning scope.
Drying and Dehumidification
After everything has been cleaned, dehumidifiers will be used once more to dry out the area completely. We will also use fans in this step. Even though the area was dried out in the previous steps, after cleaning and everything it is important to make sure no more moisture remains. Again, mold cannot survive without moisture so ensuring your home is dry and clean is paramount.
Restoration and Rebuilding
Finally, the mold has been completely removed, and the affected area has been cleaned and disinfected thoroughly. Now, we can start repairing the damage caused by the mold (this includes replacing any drywall, ceiling tiles, carpeting, etc. that was removed due to contamination). Final touch ups are also completed during this step (painting, trim repair, etc.) to restore your home to it's original, pre-mold condition. Once the job is completed, we will follow up with you in the following days to ensure everything is well.
